How Our Austin Chiropractor Provides Neck and Back Pain Relief

Nearly every American will suffer from back or neck pain at some point in their lives. Did you know that we spend more than $50 billion each year searching for low back pain relief? Unfortunately for many, traditional medical care can only provide temporary relief.

Two of the most common complaints that we see at our chiropractic office in Austin, Texas are neck pain and back pain. There are many different reasons behind the pain, including injuries and accidents, wear and tear on the body, poor sleeping habits, poor posture, and many other conditions.

At Austin Chiropractic & Rehab, our back doctors have helped thousands of patients in Austin get rid of their neck and back pain.

Causes for Neck & Back Pain: Whiplash, Shoulder, Sciatica, and More

Chronic neck pain and back pain can also mean that the musculoskeletal system is not properly aligned. There are many reasons for a misaligned musculoskeletal system. Some of these reasons include:

  • Trauma from falls or accidents
  • Certain types of injuries such as fractures or dislocations
  • Prolonged immobilization
  • Repetitive movements
  • Poor body mechanics
  • Poor posture

Besides pain, other symptoms of a misaligned musculoskeletal system include fatigue, sleep disturbances, headaches, decreased the range of motion of the back or head, and a discrepancy in the length of legs.

Pinched Nerves

chiropractor in austin texasBack problems may also result from a pinched nerve. This occurs when pressure from bones, cartilage, muscles, or tendons prevents the nerve from properly sending messages. You may experience shoulder pain, numbness, tingling sensation in the back or other areas of the body depending on which nerve is affected.

For example, if a herniated disc in the lower back compresses the sciatic nerve, you may experience pain in the legs, buttocks, and lower back, a condition known as sciatica. Medication is temporary relief while the nerve remains compressed. Chiropractic adjustment in conservative treatment can correct the underlying cause of a pinched nerve by restoring proper alignment to the musculoskeletal system.

Osteoarthritis & Spinal Stenosis

Certain disorders and diseases can also cause back and neck pain. For example, osteoarthritis and spinal stenosis are two types of degenerative disorders that are simply caused by getting older.

Spinal stenosis is a condition in which the spinal canal begins to narrow and the spaces between the vertebrae start to become smaller. This, in turn, causes the spinal cord or the nerves around it to become pinched. This condition can be painful, especially in the neck and the back. Another type of condition that affects the spine and that causes neck and back pain is degenerative disc disease. Besides pain, there can also be tingling and numbness.

Whiplash

Whiplash from car accidents is the leading cause of neck pain. During an accident, the force of impact can "whip" the neck backward and forward causing a misalignment of the cervical spine and injuring the surrounding soft tissues.

Our Treatment for Whiplash

Depending on the extent of whiplash injury, we use a combination of muscle stimulation, and corrective exercises to restore alignment. We use the McKenzie Exercise, a program of strengthening exercises to accelerate the healing process.

How Our Chiropractor Treats Neck Back and Neck Pain

While there are many treatment options available for neck and back pain, one of the most effective types of natural, non-surgical treatment is chiropractic care.

Oftentimes when someone is experiencing neck or back pain, they have a problem with their spine.

Our Approach: Chiropractic Treatment for Neck & Back Pain Relief in Austin

If you have back or neck pain or any of the other symptoms listed above, you will benefit from seeing our North Austin chiropractor.

Some of the treatment options available for this type of pain include spinal adjustments, cervical manipulation, and certain chiropractic techniques like the Thompson Terminal Point technique.

When visiting our office, one of our Austin chiropractors will ask for specific information such as when the pain started, therapies you've tried in order to reduce the pain, etc. Once you are evaluated and a diagnosis is made, we will know which type of treatment will work best for you.

We use a variety techniques including the Thompson Terminal Point technique.

Thompson Technique is performed on a drop table using your own body weight to exert force. The table drops in response to the force of an adjustment thrust, a natural movement that makes adjustments more comfortable for both patients and chiropractors.

The Thompson technique is a gentle method of adjustment that does not create the "cracking" noise associated with standard adjustments.

Your back and neck will not get better on their own, treatment is necessary to correct the underlying cause. In fact, our advanced chiropractic care is the only safe and effective conservative treatment that really works. We have helped thousands in Austin, Texas return to their normal living activities.
