What Is Upper Cervical Care?
Upper Cervical Care, also known as chiropractic orthospinology, is a specific gentle technique focusing on misalignments of the first two cervical vertebrae, C1 ("atlas") and C2 (axis"). In essence, a chiropractic adjustment with no pop.
With the aid of a special instrument called an Orthospinology Percussion Adjusting Instrument, we apply gentle pressure to this region while you are seated comfortably or lying on a table -- we do not rotate or "crack" your neck at all. Our minute adjustments correct the normal flow of nerve signals, relaxing your body and allowing it to return to its normal functionality.
If you are looking for a gentle, non-invasive, extraordinarily effective means of addressing a nagging ailment, Upper Cervical Care could well be the solution.
How Does Upper Cervical Care Work?
The cervical spine consists of the C1 through C7 vertebrae extending from the base of your skull to the base of your neck. These bones must support the weight of your head at all times. If a misalignment or compression occurs within the upper cervical spine, it can impinge nerves and interfere with soft tissue function elsewhere in the body, causing migraine and other headache issues, numbness from sciatica, and even ADHD symptoms.
Our own Dr. Whitehead experienced carpal tunnel syndrome and plantar fasciitis due to a misalignment in her upper cervical vertebrae. She found relief via Upper Cervical Care -- and so can you.
Fortunately, a chiropractor that doesn't crack can intervene if you are troubled by an upper cervical issue, and here at Whitehead Chiropractic in Austin we have helped to soothe many a pain in the neck (and elsewhere).
Upper Cervical Care for Neck Pain
Spinal problems relating to your upper cervical spine can be a real pain in the neck-literally. While the word "spine" may conjure up images of your back, you must keep in mind that your neck is part of your spine too.
The upper cervical spine is vulnerable to the same kinds of subluxations (vertebral misalignments), nerve impingement and soft tissue strain as the other parts of your spine.
Why Is Upper Cervical Care More Effective?
Upper cervical chiropractic is effective because it goes straight to the heart of your immune system by improving how your brain communicates what needs to occur in order to protect you from dangerous germs.
If your neck vertebrae aren’t aligned properly, the major nerves that control your immune system will not be receiving the instructions they need in order to do their jobs properly.
On the other hand, when your nervous system has a free, uninterrupted pathway to regulate all the different aspects of your immune system, it can fend off the inevitable threats that affect all of us this time of the year.
In fact, several studies have been carried out in recent years that have shown that Upper Cervical Chiropractic treatments on a regular basis can significantly reduce ear infections, colds, and other common winter ailments by nearly 200%.
Though the study size was small, preliminary results suggest that chiropractic adjustments of the upper cervical spine may increase the CD4 levels in HIV positive individuals.
These results suggest that follow-up studies of the link between the nervous system, immunity and the upper cervical region are well warranted The Effects of Specific Upper Cervical Adjustments on the CD4 Counts of HIV Positive Patients Jeffrey L. “Statistics reflect a most amazing, almost miraculous state of affairs. The medical profession was practically helpless with the flu victims but chiropractors seemed able to do no wrong.” “In Davenport, Iowa, 50 medical doctors treated 4,953 cases, with 274 deaths. In the same city, 150 chiropractors including students and faculty of the Palmer School of Chiropractic, treated 1,635 cases with only one death.” “In the state of Iowa, medical doctors treated 93,590 patients, with 6,116 deaths - a loss of one patient out of every 15. In the same state, excluding Davenport, 4,735 patients were treated by chiropractors with a loss of only 6 cases - a loss of one patient out of every 789.Why? The answer is reasonably simple. Chiropractors got fantastic results from influenza patients while those under medical care died like flies all around.” “Statistics reflect a most amazing, almost miraculous state of affairs. These figures are exact, for in that city these are reportable diseases.” “In the same epidemic, under drugless methods, only 25 patients died of influenza out of every 10,000 cases; and only 100 patients died of pneumonia out of every 10,000 cases. This comparison is made more striking by the following table:”
