Doing Our Part To Keep Our Patients Healthy Amid Coronavirus (COVID-19)

We are continuing to monitor the evolving COVID-19 pandemic. Offering the highest level of care for our patients is our utmost priority.

We are offering in-office and virtual/online patient visits!

We want to continue providing the services that our community needs, so we are offering a couple of alternatives for those who prefer to stay home and still want to continue with their programs.

Our Office Environment:

If you are coming to the office for an appointment, please rest assured that we are maintaining the highest level of cleanliness and sanitizing all contact surfaces frequently.  We are working to keep a staggered schedule to reduce time in the waiting room.

Telehealth & Online Programs:

We can set up telehealth coaching via any video conferencing platform like FaceTime, Zoom, or Skype. This approach empowers you instead of creating reliance on "treatments", and this allows for online coaching be as effective as in-person sessions. We will be able to coach you in your own home or preferred gym using video calls. Telehealth coaching and lifestyle appointments will be for the same duration and at the self-pay rate of in-person appointments.

Another option we have is monthly online programming. This will address rehab goals, lifestyle advice and fitness. We will provide weekly exercise programs that can be adjusted based on your feedback, and this includes one video call to discuss your progress and to teach any new exercises or self-care.

Please let us know if you are interested in either of these options by emailing Dr. Whitehead directly [email protected]  if you have further questions or would like to schedule one-on-one sessions and/or online programming.

Let's stay healthy, get plenty of sleep, eat well, and workout to boost our immune systems, and keep in touch with all our elderly and immune compromised friends and family who for social distancing reasons may feel more isolated now than normally. We will be sure to update you as soon as possible if anything changes. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Best,

Dr. Wendee Whitehead and staff

Please see the following precautionary measures to stay safe.

  • Wash hands regularly for 20 seconds and avoid touching your face.   Frequent and thorough hand washing and complete drying.  Use a towel to touch the faucet.

    • If you are at high risk or if you live with someone at high risk (age above 60 or having chronic medical conditions like diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, chronic kidney disease), please avoid public places.  Here are some suggestions to consider: Use curbside pickup at grocery stores or home delivery.

    • Use pharmacy’s drive thru or home delivery for prescriptions.

    • Order whatever you need at stores online.

    • Ask for help from friends and family who are not high risk.

  • Improve your body’s healing powers by eating lots of fruit and vegetables, especially green leafy vegetables, getting adequate sleep and regular exercise, and finding ways to stay connected with others -- even in isolation, such as by phone and social media.

  • Get enough sleep

  • Try the App “Headspace” - Health care workers get a free membership

TESTING FOR COVID-19

  • TESTING FOR NOVEL CORONAVIRUS: Testing is not yet widely available in Texas. Austin Public Health Department is screening high risk patients to be tested. Commercial laboratories like Quest, LabCorp and CPL have just started offering testing, but they are providing a very limited number of testing supplies that need to be reserved for high risk patients until more widely available.

  • There are now 2 active drive-thru test locations in Austin.  In order to be referred to a drive-thru testing site, patients must first complete a free online screening questionnaire, available at MyBSWHealth.com and on the MyBSWHealth app. For now, they only have the capacity to test those with symptoms and certain qualifications.

FROM AUSTIN PUBLIC HEALTH GUIDELINES

  • Any individual who is aware of close unprotected contact (within 6 feet) of an individual with COVID-19 should stay home and monitor their temperature and symptoms for 14 days.

  • Individuals aware they have been in the same room, but not within six feet, of an individual with COVID-19 should self-monitor their temperature and symptoms for 14 days, avoid close gatherings where they cannot maintain 6 feet of separation from others, including mass transit and air travel.

  • Individuals exposed to a case who become symptomatic, including with a cough and/or fever, should stay home and contact their primary care provider or telemedicine provider for advice and assessment of testing priority with Austin Public Health.

  • Anyone who is feeling ill - even if they are not aware of any contact with a COVID-19 case - should also stay at home.

  • Austin Public Health is working in collaboration with the Dell Medical School and local healthcare systems to rapidly increase the availability of testing, including locations for drive-through testing.
