Austin Back Pain and Neck Pain Treated With Advanced Techniques

Nearly every American will suffer from back or neck pain at some point in their lives. Collectively, we spend more than $50 billion each year searching for relief. Unfortunately for many of these patients, traditional medical care can only provide temporary pain relief. Here at Whitehead Chiropractic, our chiropractor, Dr. Wendee Whitehead, has helped thousands of Austin back pain and neck pain patients enjoy long-lasting pain relief — and rediscover their life!

Experienced Care for Whiplash, Shoulder Pain, Sciatica, and More

Whiplash from a car accident is one of the leading causes of neck pain. During a car accident, the force of impact can “whip” the neck backwards and forwards, causing a Austin back and neck pain relief through chiropractic caremisalignment of the cervical spine and injuring the surrounding soft tissues. Depending on the extent of your whiplash injury, Dr. Whitehead will use a combination of upper cervical care, muscle stimulation, and corrective exercises to restore alignment. We also use the McKenzie Exercises, a program of assessment, treatment and strengthening exercises, to accelerate the healing process following a whiplash injury.

Dr. Whitehead has completed in-depth training in treating whiplash and other auto accident injuries. Through her advanced training and experience, Dr. Whitehead is able to provide precise treatment that targets the source of pain. Dr. Whitehead utilizes both upper cervical care and the Gonstead Technique to diagnose and address the source of pain. Additionally, she is Board Certified in Rehabilitation and Strengthening which qualifies her to create customized rehab plans that are effective and provide real results.

Back Pain Relieved with a Range of Spinal Care Treatments

Many causes of chronic back pain are due to a misalignment of the musculoskeletal system. Dr. Whitehead uses a variety of different and advanced adjustment techniques to restore alignment. These include Upper Cervical Care, the Gonstead Technique, the Activator Method, and the Thompson Terminal Point Technique. Activator Methods use an instrument that allows for adjustable force settings, which allow our chiropractor to precisely apply a targeted force to the body that is customized for each patient's needs.

If you are suffering from back pain, Dr. Whitehead may also use the Thompson Technique to adjust your back. The Thompson Technique is performed on a drop table, and uses your own body weight to exert force. This means that the table will “drop” in response to the force of an adjustment thrust, a natural movement that makes adjustments more comfortable for both patients and chiropractors.

Both the Thompson Technique and the Activator Method are gentle methods of adjustment that do not create the “cracking” noise associated with standard adjustments.

Some patients with back pain may also suffer from a pinched nerve. This condition occurs when pressure from bones, cartilage, muscles, or tendons prevents the nerve from properly sending messages. You may experience shoulder pain, and a numbness or tingling sensation in the back or other areas of the body, depending on which nerve is affected. For example, if a herniated disc in the lower back compresses the sciatic nerve, you may experience pain in the legs, buttocks, and lower back, a condition known as sciatica. While medication can provide temporary relief, as long as the nerve continues to be compressed, the pain will continue. Chiropractic adjustment is a conservative treatment that can correct the underlying cause of a pinched nerve by restoring proper alignment to the musculoskeletal system.

Back and neck pain do not just “get better” on their own. Treatment is necessary to correct the underlying cause. In fact, our advanced chiropractic care is the only safe and effective conservative treatment that really works. We have helped thousands of patients get back to living the life they want to live.
